Continuing on Di Gregorio’s exploration of carnivorous plants versus unlikely predators, this is a scene which narrates a trial between an innocent and perilousness. Stealing symbolic prizes to test themselves, a nymph and frog descend into the pitcher — surrounded by Sundew traps — thriving in the belly of the Nepenthes. With its roots connected to the Pre-Raphaelites, and Flemish artistry, ‘The Pitcher Thieves’ tells a story of adaptation and survivalism through the twisting of consuming systems.
